Geological hazards are one of the most common and frequent natural disasters in the world, and their impact is second only to climate change, flooding and other global or national disaster forms. Earthquakes, volcanic activities, landslides, land subsidence and mining subsidence are generally listed as the main types of geological hazards in the world. Similar to them in China, the six types of geological hazards are landslides, collapses, debris flows, ground fissures, ground subsidence and land subsidence.


According to the "National Geological Disaster Situation in 2018 and Geological Disaster Trend Forecast in 2019" released by the Ministry of Natural Resources, 2966 geological disasters occurred in 2018, averaging 8 cases per day, resulting in 105 deaths, 7 missing persons, 73 injuries, and a direct economic loss of 1.47 billion yuan.


It is predicted that the general trend of geological hazards in 2019 is close to the perennial level, which is significantly worse than that in 2018. In spring, the southeast coastal area and the southern part of the Yangtze River are the key areas for prevention; in flood season, geological disasters will occur in large quantities. Most areas of the south, especially the southwest, Central-South and southeast coastal areas and parts of the northwest, are still the key areas for the occurrence and damage of geological disasters.
